About Mike
Mike Sannella was first elected to public office in 2014, serving on the Vallecitos Water District Board of Directors. In 2022, he was elected to the San Marcos City Council and subsequently unanimously elected as Deputy Mayor in 2025.
Deputy Mayor Sannella’s platform focused on addressing homelessness, public safety, traffic infrastructure, parks, and recreation, as well as fiscal responsibility. Notably, he contributed to the implementation of homeless solutions that provide support while prohibiting camping on public property such as sidewalks, parks, and schools. Additionally, Mike advocated for the deployment of License Plate Readers to aid the Sheriff’s department in crime deterrence and investigation. He also supported the establishment of a new Sheriff’s resource office in San Elijo Hills, the installation of a wildfire helicopter water-hydrant near Santa Fe Hills, and participated in the opening of four new parks within the last two years.
Mike has held various leadership positions, including Vice Chairman of the North County Transit District, Vice President of the San Diego County Crimestoppers, Vice President of the San Marcos Economic Development Corporation, and as a member of the Encina Wastewater Authority Board of Directors.
A resident of San Marcos since 1996, Mike is married with one daughter. He and his wife, Amy, have been married for over 25 years, and their daughter currently attends UC San Diego. Both Mike and Amy are graduates of CSU San Marcos. Mike’s professional background spans leadership roles in risk management, corporate security, and business management, while Amy has had a long career at San Marcos Unified School District, currently serving as a school principal in our community.
